As the end of the school year quickly approaches, we are eagerly looking forward to our 2015 End of Season Banquet & International Thespian Society Inductions. This is our second annual event, and it will be great to have the opportunity to honor the many fantastic performances this year, in addition to inducting the newest members of Troup #8026.
For those of you who don't know, the International Thespian Society is an honor society which celebrates excellence in theatre performance and production at the high school level. As its name suggests, it is an international organization, with local troupes around the globe. Adena High School previously had a Thespian Troupe in the 1970s and 1980s, but it was disbanded at some point due to a lack of participation in theatre at the school. Last year, we were able to recharter as Troupe #8026, and are now actively tracking and induction new members to the organization. Any high school student who participates in a theatre production, whether they are the star or an usher, is considered a Thespian apprentice and receives points towards induction and full membership in the organization. Once a student meets the induction requirements, which are 10 points from two of the five main participation categories of acting, production, business, directing or writing earned through participation in the equivalent of two full-length productions is invited to join the organization. After paying their one-time membership dues, they receive full benefits of the organization, which include access to college scholarships and participation in state, regional and national level events, among others. Thespians also continue to accrue points for their participation, which leads to further honors within the organization, in addition to other recognitions for academic performance.
This year we are also excited to begin awarding our own honors in the following categories:
Invitations to the carry-in covered dish Banquet and Awards program will go out to cast and crew members, and their families, later this week. For planning purposes, we ask that all those who plan on attending please return their RSVP card the Mr. Drummond by next Monday, May 11.
